TechEd 2012 Day 2

Day 2 of TechEd 2012 was another fun, crazy, day filled with information. Information from keynote, sessions, vendors, hands on labs, and networking. That's a lot of stuff to cram into one day. And I have two more to go.

The day started with another keynote. This is my third TechEd, but this is the first time I've seen a second TechEd. I'm really glad they had it though because it was purely focused on Windows 8 and it's new features. Antoine Leblond, Corporate Vice President of the Windows Web Service Team, showed us the ins and outs of Microsoft's newest OS and then delved a little deeper showing how some apps work and how it works in the enterprise. He a lady helping him, but I don't recall her name. I'll have to dig my notes.

I can't say I'm completely sold on the Windows 8, but I'm not as hostile towards it as I was before TechEd. The Windows Client team has been great answering questions and I plan to do some more sessiosn geared towards Windows 8, just to get a feel.

After the keynote, I talked to some more Microsoft people. I hadn't had the chance to talk to as many Microsoft groups the night before because the place was packed. I talked with the Client group, the certification group, and the phone guys, and watched some Windows Server 2012 demos. I got a lot of excellent information.

After lunch I did some hands on labs and then went to a session called Malware Hunting Using Sysinternals. Mark Russinovich, one of the creators of Sysinternals, was the speaker. I've seen him speak a few times at the last two TechEds and is one of the best. Full of information, I always learn a ton of stuff. This was no different.

After that the next session was Sysinternal Primer: Gems. Aaron Margosis, one of the writers of the Sysinternal Administrators Guide, was the perfect speaker. I think he has taken some lessons from his mentor, Mark Russinovich, because he was funny and delivered the information in an easy to learn way.

If that doesn't seem like enough, I also spent a lot of time talking with my fellow geeks and building my network. That is one of the important parts of these conferences. This network of IT pros have helped me in the past and will probably help me in the future.

Bring on Day 3!
