Update Java and Stop Malware

If you're one that doesn't update Windows and other programs, it is past time to update Java. I'm not talking about buying some new coffee beans or going to a new coffee shop, but the software that is needed to run tons of games and graphics on websites.

There is some pretty nasty malware that takes advantage of three vulnerabilities in the previous versions of Java. It deletes files from your desktop and brings a fake FBI warning that can be embarrassing, to say the least.

If a message pops up from the FBI telling you there is child porn on your computer and you have to pay $200 to get rid of it, don't worry. Your significant other or kids probably aren't doing anything wrong. You have been affected by malware.

The first thing to do is download, install, and run Malwarebytes. Once that is done, update your Java to version 7.7. Then delete any other version that is older. When you update your Java, it will uninstall any other Version 7.x, but it won't uninstall earlier versions. If you want my advice on stopping malware, take a look at my post on that.

From more information on this from Oracle, the makers of Java, read their blog post. If you're interested in that you probably already know about this.

You can go to Java's webpage to check your version and update it to the latest version. You can also find out how to delete the older versions, if you want to know Oracle's thoughts on that.
