Ryan's Being Difficult

My son, Ryan, is an amazing little guy but like most kids he can be a booger. Even before he got here he gave us all some trouble. Ryan wasn't due until August 30th, but he was anxious to leave the womb.

My poor wife, Sandy, went in for her weekly checkup on July 20 and was promptly admitted to the hospital. She was originally told it was only overnight for observation, but that night stretched into another, and then another, until she was told she wasn't leaving until the baby was born.

That was great and all, except for one little glitch. We needed to have someone watch our 5 year old daughter, Lauren. Thankfully we were able to depend on our church family and good friends, the LaPrads. I took Lauren to their house in the morning and picked her up after work. There are no words to describe what a huge blessing they are to our family.

Even with Lauren in good hands, life was crazy. I've always appreciated what Sandy does, but being the only one at home took a lot out of me. Working 40 hours, getting Lauren, making sure the house doesn't crumble, and visiting Sandy in the hospital made a full day. I figured Lauren and I needed a little break. After all, we still had over a month of this craziness.

Thursday I took a half day off from work, packed Lauren up, and went to Totem Pole Park for a couple nights. We enjoyed our first ever camping trip, but the stress was taking it's toll. We left early Saturday morning because my head was pounding and rested at home.

Sandy called me late that night upset because of the nurses and her blood pressure being so high. I did my best to calm her down, but honestly I was so tired I don't think I did much good. Then she called me at about 3:30 or 4:00am in a panic. Her blood pressure was dangerously high and they were doing an emergency C-Section as soon as the doctor got there.

That woke me up pretty quick. I called my mom and waited.
