Some people I follow on Twitter have started a challenge called 60 Days to MCSE. It's tempting to join in the fun, but I need to stay focused. I'm still working on the 70-659 exam, which can be used to get the MCSE: Private Cloud, but once I am done with this exam it's back to the CCNA. Maybe when I pass the CCNA I'll point my sites back to the MCSE.
If you haven't heard, Microsoft has brought back the MCSE, which is "reinvented for4 the cloud." It used to be a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. Now it stands for Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert. I'm wondering if it will get confusing going forward.
Last year at TechEd I sat in on a round table with some IT people and a company hired by Microsoft to talk about the cloud. Everybody at the table seemed to agree that there was a lack of definition as to what exactly the cloud was. When you put a file on the cloud it's not just floating in space waiting for you to get back to it, it's on a physical hard drive somewhere.
They were certainly pushing the cloud last year and I'm curious to see how much they will be pushing it this TechEd. There's no doubt it's the future. Microsoft, Google, and Amazon are just a few that offer some kind of cloud service. It's going to be pretty big.
This 60 Days to MCSE challenge has some great resources and not just for the Private Cloud. They also have sections for Business Intelligence and Data Platform. They listed a bunch of videos from the MMS conference that just ended and have many other links. I've been checking it out and found some useful stuff for the 70-659 exam.
Go check it out and if you feel like taking up the challenge let me know. Maybe I'll jump in too.
Everything MS does is overly complicated and convoluted. We went from MCSE to MCITP and now back to MCSE, but wait! There is not just one MCSE, there are now Eight variations! so saying you're an MCSE 2012 will be a bit vague.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the material from Trainsignal and/or CBTNuggets. I find their material easier to digest than books.
I've had very variable experiences with the MS Press books. Some are very good, but the ones I've used most recently (Server 2003 to 2008 upgrade for exam 70-648/629) are all written by the same people and are quite poor IMO. They are full of asides and real-world anecdotes that are just distracting and annoying.
ReplyDeleteThe advantage to the MS Press books is that they come with cert leaks
practice tests on the accompanying CD though.
MCSE certification is a tough certification and need lots of study to pass the exam.
